I have been asking myself whether the Western control of finance, and hence everything, is integrated with China. The nicely documented history here and in other posts, lands at an overarching conclusion that the unifying tenet of global control of wealth is communism. Does the author define communism in other articles or do we just refer to Marx for this? I say this because the apparent objectives of Marx aren't well aligned with the theme of these essays, which seems to be more focused on revealing that a shadowy network of rich elites has far more influence than most understand. If there is a unified control architecture called communism, is it the same one that operates in China? There is hardly agreement as to what communism is today. In academia I see versions of this philosophy that are wildly divergent from the interests of the working poor.
my WAG....the control structure ESC describes is not 'communism', though many of its founders were - this was the fig leaf or moral belief delusion so they could do their jobs with clear conscience - 'for the greater good'. The control structure is there to siphon money, resources and power to the 'right' people - and that is not us, nor anything like communism (closer to fascism IMO). Maybe this is one 'contradiction' Mao deliberated on his whole life. He was an adherent of Marx's theories, but did not study or spend time in the USSR or elsewhere overseas. His whole education was within China and much of it self-taught, in contrast to many other Chinese leaders.. Khruschev and Brezhnev did not improve the relationship, and China/USSR almost came to blows. China has been unique, it's formative detours and the cultural revolution were done to stymie the growth of an embedded intelligentsia and bureaucratic mandarin class, an 'elite', and keep it grounded in peasant work ethic of reality. Today there are still purges and conviction of officials and businessmen for elitist behaviour 'capitalist roaders' and corruption. That simply never happens in 'the west'. They have withstood and circumvented colour change meddling, financial indemnities and concessions as well as several bio-weapon attacks. Meanwhile they have developed the whole country in a way that embarrasses 'first world' nations. So, are they 'in on it' - I don't know. Is their 'central bank' a private Rothschild creation?

I also think it was coopted. Furthermore I agree with you that influential old money intentionally stays out of the limelight while exerting significant influence. I am not, however, convinced that there is a grand meta-network calling the shots, because I have observed in nature such things don't tend to appear. Instead, we see emergent patterns that primitive people interpreted as grand planning, when in fact things like evolution are just a manifestation of the structure of reality. There is something inherent to what we call wealth that acts like Newton's Law of Gravity that makes it clump together. People have tried to apply physical laws to social systems but there are just allegories.
