Twitter does not support Free Speech
First off, while fresh on my mind, I want to quantify exactly why Twitter - and ‘Blue’ expressly - is a scam. A complete and utter scam, which delivers nothing of the sorts it promises.
I’m fundamentally a libertarian. I think, once any - ANY - organisation grows beyond a certain threshold, the rot sets in. You get bad actors, the players of politics, and those expressly in it for themselves. So during the Scamdemic, as those of us who fundamentally believe in free speech saw our options curtailed on a daily basis, the progressively legit debate moved from Facebook and Twitter to Telegram, Gab, and - gasp - politically incorrect. Yes, legitimately - towards the end of 2021, wasting time with bored teenage trolls on 4chan was legitimately more interesting than wasting a minute on Twitter or Facebook, with their tedious and one-sided ‘fact’ ‘checks’, prepared by ‘independent’ ‘fact’ ‘checkers’ who’d all been primarily funded by Facebook (LeadStories), or had some obvious connection to an establishment-connected entity and/or ‘vaccine’ merchant. And I word myself carefully here - I love Tucker - but the rest of Fox could always go to hell. CNN and MSNBC lied to their viewers contiuously for years, I cannot fathom how anyone still think they have any credibility.
Regardless, what happens during this time is that you learn to survive. You save pictures, you backup videos, you sort the chaff and wheat from all the various Telegram channels, most of which were trying to sell you some scam. What I say is — in a way, it hardened you. Because you understood that all this material could easily disappear tomorrow, as it did on Twitter, Facebook, and - ugh - Reddit.
So when I now see the tricks that Twitter play, I can recognise them from a mile away. What they do is obvious - they strictly limit impressions for controversial posts. They shadowban posts. They remove ‘likes’ and ‘retweet’ counts to limit spread. They associate negative scores with ‘problematic’ accounts, mentioning the unspeakable.
In other words, they lie, they distort, they manipulate — and they scam supporters out of money.
I add the final bit with intent. I specifically paid to support free speech. The monthly fee I could care less about, it’s the message broadcast on the topic. Elon explicitly came in, championing free speech. But he absolutely does not deliver.
Whether that’s him, or intelligence services, doing so — I’m not sure. Frankly, what I’ve discovered over the past few months is that egregious, I can easily imagine it’s the latter. Easily. In fact, it’s probably the more likely option. But either way, I’m not going to financially support a message which is not delivered.
And to very quicky sum up what I experienced (and documented in realtime on Twitter) -
My (blue checkmark) replies would be hidden along with other conservatives behind not one but TWO ‘more replies’ boxes. Typically way after every insane, left-wing lunatic would have posted incoherent rants.
This fundamentally fails to deliver on promise of a ‘boost’ in ratings, which is a core tenet of the ‘blue checkmark’ policy. Some replies would outright not show up. The replies would simply not exist when you browsed the post. However, heading straight to the URL would yield expected results. That’s outright suppression of speech.
On a few occasions, Twitter would outright block me from posting. The most egregious, and of which I’m certain, is when I outed David Kaye for being the subversive comminist that he truly is.
That is straight up censorship.Even replies to BRAND NEW TWEETS with NO OTHER REPLIES would receive the same treatment. That is not coincidental.
Again, outright censorship.Frequently, new posts of mine would gains rapid impressions, only then to stop dead in its tracks after 50-100. Same goes for ‘likes’ and ‘retweets’. After a short period, nothing. Everything would go completely dead. That is absolutely not organic. That is controlled. That is some bureaucrat deciding your wrongthink should not be broadcast.
And I heard the exact same complaint from a number of posters. In fact, one of my very favourites - biologyphenom - disappeared, after having complained about said censorship. The people you’d see in your feed would be massively inconsistent. There were a few posters whose posts I particularly liked - TDBSubstack and EWoodhouse7 for instance - but had I the nerve to communicate with them, Twitter would simply disappear them from my tweets for a week or two. Bad prole! You’re not to speak to those other proles, you might get ideas.
The one rational argument I can table here is that, after often spending hours and hours researching a topic, and seeing the post dying a sudden death, sure - I would go around and reply to recent posts with a link where relevant. What the hell else can you do, when you’re already clearly being censored. Perhaps that triggers some ‘spam’ counter internally.
However, even that sounds entirely implausible, and you know why? Because on many, many, MANY occasions where I posted something hugely inconvenient, I would suddenly see some utterly irrelevant post of yore taking off, some sarcasting comment posted in 3 seconds. What the ‘algorithm’ would likely do, is consider your recent wrongthink unacceptable, and boost a neutral former post of yours. It would explain exactly what I saw, repeatedly.
Anyway, I wanted to get that out fresh in my mind, because I am absolutely livid with Twitter’s outrageous policies on this topic. You cannot champion yourself as a purveyor of free speech, and then censor those who support you. Especially not when money is involved.
That is just outright fraud in my book.
With that out of the way, let’s get on with the real topic.
