When I first started working a part-time survival job and researching in 2006-08, I got the same staggering sensation. Folks on the network I began building back then had the same sensation. We watched Peter Joseph's Zeitgeist documentaries and thought "What the hell?" His voice and Greg Reese's voice can still give me a sense of nostalgia.
Somehow, I managed to be an activist for Pro-Choice (I had skin in the game) and the environment for 30 years without ever looking at the monetary system. Literally to the exclusion of all else. That is mind control.
Great revelation of the modern origin of the war of the elites against the rest of us. Observation and measurement considered relevant to a standard: these techniques have their place in say, product testing or as President Kennedy's "scalpel". But as a system of government, no way. All that bureaucratic machinery allows a dictatorial will to cosplay as objective reality. ("Non-normative" economics plays the same game, keeping its underlying premises well hidden.)
Give the controllers credit They realized that the past several centuries had turned the "common person" into someone smart enough to create and maintain the modern world, with its cornucopia of riches that allowed the elite to live beyond the dreams of avarice. Trouble is, that also made them smart enough to, at least potentially, see through the schemes of their erstwhile manipulators. Bernays had come up with propaganda as a way to contain people's smarts within their own specialties, making them dumb concerning the overall picture. But the most prescient of the controllers had known that 20th century propaganda had its own shelf life...
Even before the Internet, with pesky truth-telling blogs like ESC.
So what now? Even more control, draconian restrictions, CBDC, etc. etc? Trouble is, any attempt at tyrannical control will drive even more opposition, including from the very people being relied upon to put the system in place and maintain it. Unless they're counting on AGI to do the dirty work. But then, two can and will play that game.
Terrorism (political violence without the blessing and approval of the Right People) has been an early harbinger of the ability of an individual to marshal the kind of firepower once relegated to armies. (Or, equivalently, to use asymmetrical warfare to neutralize weapons requiring far more resources.) I think the nightmare of the elites is a world where they can no longer even pretend to defend us. So of what use is a nation-state --or a world-state--when it fails at its primary purpose? At the same time, more and more of us are using our own increasingly-powerful resources to do workarounds as governments become incompetent at everything except oppression.
No wonder all 40 million people in California are kept out of participation in the decision making process regarding automobile transportation. It is all developed and forced upon us by the CA Environmental Lobby and CARB (California Air resources Board)... both groups are protected from the electorate.
It is staggering, how we are deceived.
